Since 1997, as a result of the generosity of ten ‘founding’ members, The Old Burians Charitable Trust (registered charity number 1062429) has been able to part-fund many personal development projects (both educational and charitable) pursued by individuals in their later years at the school. This is one of the most important aspects of the Old Burians’ work with current students.
With the abolition of middle schools, students at King Edward’s join in year 7. The current school now has no sixth form, with the majority of year 11 students going on to Abbeygate Sixth Form College or West Suffolk College, both located in the same area as the school. The Old Burians Charitable Trust offers financial grants to all students of King Edward VI School either currently at the school or in further education, up to the age of 25.
An award from the Trust can be life-changing for students at the school, and even after they have left. Any member of the “King Edward VI School family” can apply for a grant to help pay for music, sport, dance, or any other activity which will broaden their experience and enable them to develop particular skills.
You can read some personal stories here of how the Trust has helped some previous students to pursue their ambitions.
We would like to place on record how grateful we are to those who currently give regularly to the Trust.
The amount of money available each year varies, as only the interest on the capital sum is used. If you are able, and would like to support us with a donation, please see below. We and future generations of Old Burians owe it to those who have gone before to keep the scheme a vibrant and realistic source of funding in the years ahead.
If you are a student and would like to apply for an Old Burians Charitable Trust award, please send us a message and we will get back in touch with you. Applications may be made at any time – an award can be given in your first year at the school, continuing when it’s time to leave the school and perhaps go on to further education at college or university, up to your twenty-fifth birthday.
