Students from all years of the school were invited to submit a photograph inspired by the title “Reflection”. There were four prizes on offer, and here are the winners with editorial comments!
“Avocet Reflection”
Taken at Pensthorpe Nature Reserve, Fakenham, Norfolk the Avocet quietly wades through shallow water with its reflection appearing in the gentle ripples beneath. The forward progress is emphasised by the reeds in the background. The vertical format of the photograph echoes the graceful shapes, making this a striking black and white photograph by Callum.
“Sunset”
A quiet magical moment as the sun sets in the atmospheric sky above the horizon. Its reflections are caught in the quietly rippling waves approaching the elegant silhouetted figure in the foreground and the gently curving waterline makes Elizabeth’s photograph a very captivating image.
“Reflection in a Mirror”
A daring idea of capturing the reflection in a mirror of the sun’s rays emerging from the clouds just at the right moment. The angle of the mirror and its oval shape seem to be carefully positioned on the diagonal axis of the photograph by Isabelle and the momentary nature of the event has resulted in unexpected areas of diffracted colour across the surrounding vegetation.
“Eye”
What an eye-catching photograph by Gracie-mai! This close-up view showing details that are not usually noticed immediately captures our attention. The difference between the eyelashes on the upper and lower eyelids, the veins in the cornea and the strongly contrasting image in the iris make this an especially powerful photograph.
