Having attended KEGS/KEUS I graduated from Kingston Polytechnic (now University) in 1979. After a PGCE at Bath University I worked as a teacher in Sussex and Hampshire for a few years before entering local government, including a long spell through the 1990s with Suffolk County Council as a Senior Education Officer at their Shire Hall office in Bury St Edmunds – very strange to visit the school as “the man from the council” with one or two staff who had taught me still in situ!
After posts with councils in the midlands and the north I retired as Chief Executive of Angus Council in Scotland in May 2017 and now live in North Yorkshire doing a bit of consultancy, engaging with local club cricket and following Ipswich Town’s fortunes.
